Welcome to What My Kids Taught Me

Children are amazing and I’m sure as a parent yourself you have found this to be true. I certainly have found my children to be a blessing from day one. They provide me with joy every day and a lot of fun moments. It’s not to say that the children don’t also come with challenges, and certainly I have found myself terribly irritated and frustrated with the children (actually often with myself) from time to time, but that’s all part of life.

What I did not perhaps expect, was that they also seem to be a constant source of valuable lessons. Often these lessons are a teaching me something about myself, often pointing to sincere flaws that I really need to work on.

Often the lessons draw a smile on my face as they reveal some quirks about myself that I actually find a bit embarrassing.

In addition to revealing sides of myself, good and bad ones, the lessons also often hold great insights to all human psyche and human interactions of all kinds.

Since I’m typically interested in matters of personal development and high performance as well as business, success and leadership, I often see the parallels to behaviors in adult communication and psychology. I see parallels to our own daily behaviors, in how we tackle some of the challenges that we face, in how we negotiate, handle customers, colleagues, peers and bosses and of course in how we deal with our partners both in business but certainly also at home.

Our children provide such a mirror to ourselves and make at times what we didn’t want to face, stare us right back in the eyes for us to realize blatant truths. Whether you now use it for something that will benefit your future growth personally or in your relations, performance and successes – well, that is entirely up to you.

With this site, I am hoping to capture as many of the lessons and reveals that my children bring me over time. I would love to collect as many of them as I can, for their lessons hold so many great truths and often come with funny anecdotes and events that will be amusing to revisit later on.

It’s my hope that eventually when visitors come to the site, that they will add anecdotes of their own. Lessons they have picked up from their lives too, lessons from their children.

So again, welcome to this site. Let’s dive in and let’s begin.

Zombies, Ghouls and Mummies

As one of my rituals I aim to read something constructive, something I may learn from or something that will put positive thoughts into my mind every morning. With this I aim to set the mood for the day with something that can be more supportive to my, rather than let my worries and my challenges get the better of me.

The Incessant Whining

The Incessant WhiningMy beautiful 3-year-old daughter, Angelica, bless her heart, has a bit of a tendency to whine. I suppose it's a way for her to catch some attention and she may be under the impression that it actually serves her.The problem is, however, that I...

When We Need To Go The Opposite Direction Of Where You Want To Go

Even though my son is now 5 year old, he will invariably insist on using the toddler’s swing at the playgrounds. Yes, he’s definitely getting too big for it, but nevertheless for whatever reason, he still wants to use these from time to time

Playing Memory – Everything Has A Learning Curve

Most beginnings are difficult and often entail a bit of frustration for us. But by not giving up and showing a bit of tenacity we can end up being quite good at it and eventually actually even end up enjoying it.
